New England Equal Longest Victory Run Since Brady Years with Triumph Against Jets
First-year player TreVeyon Henderson has tallied five scores during the current campaign
New England matched their best victory streak since the Tom Brady period as they overcame division rivals the Jets by 13 points in professional football
Rookie TreVeyon Henderson shone brightly with three touchdowns as the Patriots claimed an eighth consecutive victory for the initial occasion since legendary quarterback Brady's closing campaign with the team in the 2019 season
Signal-caller Drake Maye passed for 281 passing yards and a touchdown, connecting on 25 out of 34 attempts
Victory extends the Patriots advantage at the top of the AFC East as they advanced to nine victories against two losses, with the Jets at the foot after dropping to a 2-8 mark
The visitors had scored first at their home field with QB Justin Fields rushing for a short rushing score to cap the Jets' opening drive
But the Patriots fought back in the second quarter as Henderson scored two seven-yard TDs before the ball carrier grabbed a reception from Maye at the back of the end zone halfway into the third period to make it 21-7
"It was a key occasion for him stepping up, and it's been great for him to keep getting these reps," Maye said of Henderson. "He aims to be great."
Justin Fields threw to Metchie late in the third quarter to narrow the deficit for the visitors but Andy Borregales converted a two field goals in the final period as the Patriots sealed the victory
