One-time National Football League Star Antonio Brown Files Innocent Plea in Murder Attempt Charges
Former NFL star Antonio Brown is traveling to Miami to face an murder attempt allegation connected with a gunfire that occurred in May, as his attorney filing a not guilty response on his behalf.
Correctional documents in Essex, New Jersey, reveal that Brown was released on Tuesday early for his relocation to the state of Florida. Brown, one of the most popular players in the NFL, had relinquished transfer to Florida from New Jersey, where he was taken after being taken into custody in Dubai.
Brown’s counsel, Mark Eiglarsh, mentioned in an email that he has already submitted a formal innocent response to the attempted murder charge. Brown could be in a Miami hearing as early as Wednesday morning for a bail proceeding, Eiglarsh said.
According to his apprehension warrant, Brown is alleged of seizing a pistol from a safety guard after a celebrity boxing contest in May and shooting a couple of shots at a person he had clashed with earlier. The reported victim, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, informed police that one of the bullets scraped his neck.
Eiglarsh said that Brown was simply protecting himself from Nantambu.
“The steps he was obliged to take were exclusively in self-defense against the claimed person’s violent behavior. Brown was targeted that night and acted within his rightful right to safeguard himself,” Eiglarsh commented.
Brown was not immediately apprehended because at first authorities did not consider Nantambu as a affected party. It not until later in May that Nantambu provided a full testimony about the situation to authorities and pointed out Brown as the perpetrator, the report states.
Based on his social media updates, Brown had been staying in the city of Dubai for multiple months. In a post after the altercation, Brown claimed he was defending himself because he was “jumped by numerous persons who sought to steal my possessions and cause bodily injury to me.”
A level two murder attempt accusation in Florida bears a highest 15-year incarceration term and up to a $10,000 fee in the event of a conviction.
Brown has encountered multiple court problems over the years. He before had been charged of physical attack of a delivery operator, multiple family violence charges, neglect to pay child support and other occurrences.
During a 2021 match with his team against the opponents, Brown removed his uniform, protective gear and accessories and ran off the field, leading to his dismissal by the team and practically concluding his NFL career.
Brown, who had twelve years in the NFL, was an top-tier wide receiver who devoted most of his time with his team. Throughout his career, Brown had 928 catches for above 12,291 distance, the twenty-eighth highest of all time. He was a 7-time prestigious pick.
